The Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, Mr Bede Ziedeng, has provided logistical support to the Lawra Traditional Council and the Judicial Service as part of efforts to enhance local administration, dispute resolution and justice delivery in the municipality.
The intervention, valued at about GH₵130,000, included 660 plastic chairs and two motorbikes aimed at addressing operational challenges facing the two institutions.
While the chairs will be distributed among traditional councils within the Lawra Traditional Area to support meetings, hearings and community engagements, the motorbikes will assist the Registrar of the Traditional Council and the Lawra Circuit Court bailiff in carrying out their official duties.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony in Lawra, Naa Volkur Nyuure Tang IV, Chief of Eremon, who represented the Traditional Council, expressed appreciation to the MP for responding to a longstanding need of the traditional authorities.
He said inadequate seating arrangements had affected the smooth organisation of council meetings, mediation sessions and public engagements, adding that the donation would improve the working environment of the various councils.
Naa Tang explained that the motorbike would also enhance the mobility of the Traditional Council’s Registrar and improve coordination between the council and other institutions within the traditional area.
He noted that the gesture fulfilled a commitment made by the MP and appealed for continued support to strengthen the operations of traditional authorities.
On behalf of the Judicial Service, Ms Leticia Zu, an Interpreter at the Lawra Circuit Court, received the motorbike and said the support would significantly improve the efficiency of the court bailiff.
She assured the MP that the motorcycle would be properly maintained and used strictly for official assignments.
The Lawra Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Cecilia Nuratu Soyelleh, described the intervention as evidence of the MP’s commitment to addressing development challenges across different sectors of the constituency.
She commended Mr Ziedeng for fulfilling his promise to support the chiefs and the Circuit Court, saying the gesture would contribute to improved service delivery.
Presenting the items, Mr Ziedeng said the donation was informed by the important roles played by traditional institutions and the judiciary in maintaining peace, resolving disputes and promoting development.
He noted that institutions responsible for justice administration often received limited attention despite their significant contribution to social stability.
The MP expressed the hope that the support would strengthen collaboration between traditional authorities, the courts and other stakeholders in advancing development within the municipality.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting other critical areas, including education, healthcare, water and sanitation, to improve living conditions for residents.
Under the distribution arrangement, the Lawra Traditional Council will receive 100 chairs, each of the eight divisional councils will receive 50 chairs, while sub-divisional councils will receive 20 chairs each.
