Pupils of Sasabi Community KKMA Basic School in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality can now look forward to studying in a safe and conducive environment following the construction of a new six-unit classroom block and the renovation of existing structures by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
For years, teaching and learning at the school were frequently disrupted whenever it rained due to leaking roofs and deteriorating classroom blocks described by authorities as unsafe. The poor state of infrastructure forced pupils to close early during downpours, significantly affecting academic work.

Recognising the urgent need for intervention, the Church, as part of its humanitarian outreach, undertook a comprehensive infrastructure project to transform the school’s learning environment.
The intervention includes a newly constructed six-unit classroom block equipped with a computer laboratory, science laboratory, staff common room, canteen and modern washroom facilities. In addition, an existing seven-unit classroom block has been fully renovated.
At a brief handover ceremony, Humanitarian Missionary for the Church, Nancy Waterfall, said the organisation is committed to promoting education and expanding access to quality learning opportunities. She noted that addressing critical challenges within schools forms part of the Church’s broader mission to support communities.
The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Director of Education, Harry Evans Arthur, expressed gratitude to the Church for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention. He observed that inadequate infrastructure remains one of the district’s most pressing challenges and called for sustained support to address the growing needs of pupils.
Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso, Joseph Tetteh, also commended the Church for the gesture. He pledged to support efforts to fence the school and ensure that furniture and equipment are provided, particularly for the newly constructed science laboratory.
