President John Dramani Mahama has spotlighted early signs of economic recovery under his administration, citing declining inflation and improved currency stability as evidence of Ghana’s return to fiscal discipline and renewed business confidence.
Speaking to traditional authorities and residents of the Ashanti Region as part of his thank-you tour following the 2024 elections, President Mahama emphasized that stabilizing the economy has been his government’s top priority since assuming office in January 2025.
“From day one, we made a conscious choice to rein in government spending, enforce discipline, and prioritize efficient use of public resources. Today, those choices are paying off,” he told a packed durbar in Kumasi.
He noted that these reforms are particularly vital to regions like Ashanti, where entrepreneurship and commercial activity are central to livelihoods. “We are beginning to see positive outcomes that restore predictability and reduce the cost of doing business,” the President said.
One of the major announcements during the visit was the President’s directive to the Minister for Transport to conduct a full audit of the Boankra Inland Port project. He explained that the findings would be reviewed by Cabinet to chart a credible and time-bound path to its completion.
“The Boankra Inland Port is a game-changer for the middle belt economy. We want it completed not just for optics, but for real impact,” he said.
President Mahama also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing key infrastructure in the region, with particular emphasis on road networks and transportation projects that had either stalled or slowed in recent years.
But beyond brick-and-mortar promises, he spoke to a broader national mission: rebuilding trust, promoting unity, and rewarding effort.
“Our reset agenda is not just about fixing the economy; it’s about ensuring that every hardworking Ghanaian gets a fair opportunity to succeed,” he stressed.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, expressed gratitude for the President’s commitment to equitable development. He described the administration’s current economic measures as timely and reassuring for both business owners and everyday citizens alike.
As the President wrapped up his address, he called on the people of Ashanti to support efforts to depoliticize development, urging all stakeholders to contribute to a united national agenda for growth.
“Let’s rise above partisanship and build a region — and a country — where no one is left behind,” he concluded.
