Ghana is stepping into a prominent leadership position in global health diplomacy, as President John Dramani Mahama co-chairs a key segment of the 2026 One Health Summit alongside Emmanuel Macron.
The high-level gathering brings together world leaders, policymakers, and health experts to address pressing global challenges, including disease outbreaks, food security, and the resilience of health systems.
Mahama’s role at the summit highlights Ghana’s growing influence in shaping international health policy, particularly through initiatives such as the Accra Reset Initiative, which promotes coordinated global responses to emerging threats.
As part of the programme, the President is expected to deliver two major keynote addresses. One will focus on reforming global health architecture in collaboration with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization, with discussions aimed at strengthening international cooperation.
His second address will set the tone for deliberations among Heads of State, outlining Ghana’s strategy for enhancing global health security through collaboration across sectors.
The summit is expected to produce a political declaration to guide future global health cooperation, placing Ghana at the centre of efforts to drive collective solutions to cross-border health challenges.
