Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has urged national consensus on the upcoming 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, as President John Dramani Mahama prepares to officially launch the flagship initiative on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Speaking during a presentation of the policy document at Parliament, Mr. Bagbin recommended that the document be laid before the House for debate following the launch. He said such a move would foster cross-party and institutional support for the programme’s long-term success.
“This policy should not only be a government document, but one embraced by all Ghanaians through the proper democratic channels,” the Speaker noted.
The document was presented by Mr. Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Advisor and head of the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, who outlined the core pillars of the programme, which aims to stimulate private sector growth, create jobs, and increase national productivity.
The components—such as the “24-Hour Supply Chain,” “Grow-Ghana,” “Aspire 24-Hour,” “Resetting the Mindset,” and “Go-Ghana”—represent a bold effort to shift Ghana’s economic activity toward round-the-clock productivity and competitive export-led development.
Mr. Tanoh emphasized that the programme is not just about extending working hours but about creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and for Ghana’s workforce to maximize opportunities.
The launch is expected to mark a key turning point in Ghana’s economic strategy, placing emphasis on industrialization, logistics, mindset transformation, and coordinated national exports.
Details of the full implementation strategy are expected to be released at the event, which is expected to draw stakeholders from industry, labour, Parliament, and civil society.
