President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he is expected to push Africa’s agenda for stronger financial institutions and global economic reforms.
A statement from the Presidency said the President, who serves as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions, will use the platform to rally support for reforms that strengthen Africa’s role in global finance. He is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s address to the General Assembly on Thursday, 25th September, 2025.
President Mahama’s itinerary features two high-level side events he will host on Africa’s financial resilience, as well as bilateral engagements with the UN Secretary-General, other world leaders, and partners such as the Rockefeller Foundation.
He will also meet with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce to deepen trade ties and is set to make a historic appearance at NASDAQ, where he will ring the closing bell — a symbolic act highlighting Ghana’s commitment to global investment partnerships.
The First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, will join the diplomatic mission with a focus on women and children’s development. She will speak at events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver the keynote at a World Vision International prayer service dedicated to children worldwide.
The President’s delegation includes senior government officials such as Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. Also on the team are government advisors and heads of key institutions, including the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre.
President Mahama and his delegation are expected back in Accra on 30th September.
