President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), stating that failure to effectively utilize the soon-to-be-released District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) could cost them their jobs.
Speaking during his Thank-You tour of the Bono East Region on Friday, May 30, President Mahama confirmed that the Finance Ministry is preparing to release the first quarter allocation of the DACF. The announcement comes amid mounting criticism from the Minority, who have accused the Finance Minister of deliberately delaying the disbursement of statutory funds, despite the availability of resources and legal obligations.
President Mahama stressed that 80% of the funds would be directly allocated to the regions, empowering local authorities to address development needs. However, he was clear that this autonomy comes with accountability.
“MMDCEs, you have no excuse,” the President said. “We will provide you with clear guidelines—approved at our last Cabinet meeting—that will serve as Key Performance Indicators. Your performance will be evaluated annually, and if you don’t meet expectations, you will be replaced.”
The President emphasized that the directive is aimed at improving local governance, ensuring transparency, and delivering tangible development outcomes at the grassroots level.
As part of his nationwide tour to thank voters and assess regional development progress, President Mahama is expected to continue to the Bono Region later on Friday.
