Residents of Mamboi in the Kpaliye Electoral Area of the Wa East District are grappling with worsening access to education, healthcare and markets, prompting renewed calls for urgent government intervention.
Community leaders say the absence of a Kindergarten (KG) block and the deplorable state of roads linking Mamboi to neighbouring communities are severely affecting livelihoods and social services. During the rainy season, parts of the community become cut off due to a river that overflows, leaving residents stranded.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Chief of Mamboi, Naa Ahmadu Abdulali, explained that the poor road network has disrupted farming and trading activities. According to him, farmers struggle to transport fertiliser and other inputs from market centres, while accessing healthcare facilities in emergencies remains a major challenge.
“The bad state of the roads is really affecting us. When there is a serious health issue, getting to the health centre is difficult, and pregnant women struggle to attend antenatal clinics or deliver safely,” he said.
He added that the lack of basic infrastructure, including a standard school and health facility, continues to undermine development in the community.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Peter Sortro Mwiniisir, also expressed concern that although political leaders are aware of the challenges, little progress has been made. He noted that campaign promises to improve roads and expand educational infrastructure have yet to materialise.
Residents say children are often unable to attend school when it rains, while expectant mothers face serious risks due to delayed access to medical care.
Ms. Bosureta Ahmed, a resident, appealed to government and development partners to prioritise Mamboi’s needs, stressing that improved roads and the construction of a KG block would significantly enhance living conditions and opportunities for the community.
