The Municipal Chief Executive for Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly, Thomas Musah Ayarba, has expressed concern over increasing cases of substance abuse among young people in the area, warning that the trend is contributing to rising crime levels.
He made the remarks during the coronation of Bisa Sarkin Samari as Nkosuohene of the Amantin Traditional Area, where he urged stakeholders to work together to address the growing challenge.
According to him, drug abuse among the youth is undermining community safety and development, stressing the need for intensified education, enforcement, and community support systems to curb the menace.
Mr Ayarba cautioned young people against engaging in illicit drug use, describing it as a threat to their future and the overall progress of the municipality.
He emphasised that the youth remain a key asset for development and called for stronger collaboration among traditional leaders, security agencies, and community groups to create an environment that promotes discipline and responsibility.
The MCE also urged the newly enstooled sub-chief and residents to prioritise peace and unity, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved in a stable and harmonious environment.
He stressed that without peace, efforts to advance the socio-economic growth of the municipality would be significantly hindered.
Later in the programme, Mr Ayarba donated an undisclosed amount of money to support traditional leaders, encouraging them to continue playing an active role in local development initiatives.
