The Right Reverend Kwaku Effah, Methodist Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, has emphasized the church’s role in addressing the rising trend of indiscipline in Ghana by focusing on the development of the youth. Speaking during the 46th Annual Synod of the Methodist Church of Ghana at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region, he urged churches to prioritize Christian maturity in young people as a means to foster discipline and societal responsibility.
The synod, held under the theme “Discipleship: Growing into Christian Maturity,” brought together Diocesan executives, church committees, pastors’ wives, and church members to reflect on the church’s past year’s achievements, challenges, and future goals. In his address, Rt. Rev. Effah highlighted the importance of building a mature Christian faith, noting that such spiritual growth would instill discipline, integrity, and strong moral values in the youth.
He stressed that churches should not only focus on spiritual development but also create platforms for young people to acquire employable skills, thereby increasing job opportunities. “Youth groups will unite young people, help them develop skills, and equip them for the future,” he stated, urging Christians to live not for themselves but to please God. He emphasized that living a life devoted to God would lead to true Christian maturity.
Rt. Rev. Effah also addressed the holistic nature of Christian maturity, explaining that it goes beyond age or church position and is characterized by holiness, righteousness, and a strong relationship with God. He called for continuous prayer, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and a commitment to living righteously to grow in Christian maturity.
