The Ghana Armed Forces has intensified efforts to support the construction of the new Accra-Kumasi Expressway, with military engineers already clearing large portions of land earmarked for the massive road project.

Chief of the Defence Staff, William Agyapong, paid a working visit to troops stationed at Asuboa near Akyem Oda, where personnel are undertaking land clearing activities along the proposed expressway corridor.

The soldiers, drawn from the Engineers unit of the Ghana Armed Forces, are currently working to clear a 175.6-kilometre right-of-way for the project.

Project Engineer, Evans Biney, disclosed during the visit that four work teams have been deployed to operate day and night across the entire stretch of the corridor.

He revealed that 17.75 kilometres had already been cleared during the mobilisation phase, adding that the team remains on course to complete the assignment within the planned 20-week timeline.

According to him, funding has been secured and most of the required equipment is already on site, although heavy rainfall, thick vegetation, poor night visibility and compensation processes remain potential setbacks.

Project Coordinator, Edem Anku, said logistical and administrative arrangements have been completed to ensure smooth execution of the project.

He also noted that project officials have maintained strong engagement with traditional leaders in Asuboa and nearby communities while exploring opportunities to involve local youth in minor support roles.

During his inspection, Lt. Gen. Agyapong praised the troops for their commitment and urged them to maintain momentum to meet project deadlines.

He described the expressway as a critical national infrastructure project and said the military’s contribution would remain a significant part of its legacy in national development.

The CDS also met with residents expected to be affected by the project and assured them that government would ensure fair compensation.

The expressway will connect key communities across Greater Accra Region, Eastern Region and Ashanti Region, including Ablekuma, Adeiso, Asamankese, Anamase, Akim Oda, Ayirebi, Ofoase and Sawua.
