An NPP communicator, Nana Agyei, has credited former Vice President and party flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia with promoting digital services that have made everyday transactions more convenient for Ghanaians.
He cited mobile prepaid purchases, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) renewals and mobile money transactions as examples of how digital technology has improved access to essential services.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Mr Agyei argued that the initiatives had reduced the need for people to visit physical offices to complete routine transactions, making services more accessible to households, traders and other users.
“Thanks to Dr Bawumia, we can now buy prepaid on our phones. This is the man we need for the development of Ghana,” he said.
He also highlighted the convenience of renewing health insurance through mobile phones, noting that users could complete the process from home instead of travelling to an office.
Mr Agyei further pointed to mobile money services as an important tool for market women and other traders, enabling them to conduct financial transactions more easily in their daily business activities.
According to him, the adoption of digital solutions demonstrates the role technology can play in improving service delivery and supporting economic activities.
The NPP communicator also cited Zipline’s drone delivery service, which transports medical supplies, as another initiative he associated with Dr Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President.
He criticised what he described as disruptions to the service under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, arguing that the technology remained important to healthcare delivery.
“They are saying drones are not needed for healthcare delivery,” Mr Agyei said.
He maintained that the service should continue contributing to the delivery of medical supplies, adding to his broader argument that digital innovation should remain a priority in Ghana’s development agenda.
