he President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), Charles Osei Asibey, has officially filed his nomination to seek re-election, outlining an ambitious reform agenda aimed at consolidating gains and strengthening the sport’s continental structure.
Having led the Federation for three years and seven months, Mr. Osei Asibey says Africa Armwrestling has reached a decisive moment that demands experienced and steady leadership to drive its next phase of growth.
Under his tenure, the Federation reports notable progress, including stronger governance systems, improved administrative coordination, enhanced compliance with international standards, and an increase in active member federations. Continental competitions have also expanded, boosting participation and raising Africa’s profile within the global Armwrestling community.
Despite these strides, Mr. Osei Asibey maintains that institutional reforms must go deeper. His renewed mandate, if granted, will focus on reinforcing transparency and accountability frameworks, strengthening national federations, and ensuring structured development support across member countries.
A key pillar of his vision is youth and grassroots development, with plans to create sustainable pathways for identifying and nurturing young talent across the continent. He has also pledged to promote greater inclusion of women in the sport and mobilise strategic partnerships to improve financial sustainability.
Capacity building for member federations remains central to his agenda, as he seeks to equip national bodies with the technical, administrative, and governance expertise needed to elevate standards across Africa.
With his nomination confirmed, the upcoming AFA presidential election is poised to determine the direction of Armwrestling on the continent, as stakeholders weigh continuity against the demand for accelerated transformation.
