The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership in Dome Kwabenya has attributed the party’s parliamentary loss in the 2024 elections to the actions and inactions of former Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
At a press conference on Today, constituency executives accused her of deliberately sabotaging the party’s efforts, leading to voter apathy and a shift of support to the opposition.
According to Constituency Chairman Robert Osei Bonsu, Ms. Safo failed to engage with constituents, ignored invitations to unity talks after losing the NPP parliamentary primaries, and refused to campaign for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Ambassador Michael Oquaye Jnr.
“She abandoned the constituency at a crucial time. While we were on the ground campaigning, she was absent, and even when national leaders, including the Chief of Staff and senior party officials, reached out for reconciliation, she ignored them,” Mr. Bonsu stated.
The party further accused her of openly working against the NPP’s campaign by allegedly diverting party resources meant for Dome Kwabenya supporters to the NDC parliamentary candidate.
Ms. Safo was also seen celebrating the NDC’s victory instead of supporting the NPP’s legal efforts to challenge the election results.
Additionally, the leadership criticized her lack of engagement during her tenure, highlighting that she failed to attend municipal meetings, neglected key constituency activities, and angered voters with her absence from parliamentary duties, including the controversial E-Levy vote.
“Our defeat was not just due to general voter apathy. It was clear sabotage. Her refusal to campaign or even acknowledge the party’s efforts sent a strong message to voters, and it cost us dearly,” the leadership concluded.
The NPP Dome Kwabenya executives have vowed to rebuild the party’s base and ensure that such divisions do not affect future elections.
