Parliament is set to adjourn sine die on Friday, July 31, 2026, bringing the second meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament to an end.

The House is expected to go on recess after completing outstanding business from a meeting that featured major legislative interventions and the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson presented the mid-year review during the meeting, outlining the government’s assessment of the economy and its policy direction for the remainder of the year.

Beyond the economic review, lawmakers passed several significant pieces of legislation.

Among the most prominent was the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which seeks to criminalise certain LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.

Parliament also passed the Tribunals Bill, which provides for the establishment of Regional and District Tribunals as part of efforts to address the growing backlog of cases within the justice system.

The National Defence University Ghana Bill was also approved to provide the legal framework for the establishment of the university.

Another key legislation passed was the Community Service Bill, which introduces community service as an alternative to custodial sentences for persons convicted of specified offences.

The measure is intended to promote rehabilitation while helping to reduce congestion in Ghana’s prisons.

The adjournment will formally end a parliamentary meeting that combined the consideration of major legislative reforms with scrutiny of the government’s economic performance and policy priorities.

Parliament is expected to resume sitting after the recess to continue its legislative and oversight responsibilities.
