Starting Monday, June 16, 2025, Parliament’s Appointments Committee will undertake the critical vetting of seven Court of Appeal Justices nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for elevation to the Supreme Court.
The process, running through to Wednesday, June 18, aims to ensure that only the most qualified candidates ascend to Ghana’s highest judicial bench.
The nominees—Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba—were selected under the provisions of Article 144 (2) of the 1992 Constitution.
This vetting marks a significant step in reinforcing the judiciary’s capacity to deliver justice effectively, with Parliament expected to scrutinize the nominees’ legal expertise, professional track records, and judicial philosophies. Public engagement is anticipated as the committee examines each candidate’s credentials before making recommendations for final parliamentary approval.
The upcoming vetting underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in judicial appointments, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to upholding the rule of law through a robust and independent Supreme Court.
