Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada has withdrawn her intention to contest the position of National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing deep reflection, prayer and extensive consultations.
In a statement dated August 25, 2026, Ms Lomokie said the decision followed careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding her candidacy.
She described the decision as difficult, explaining that she entered the race with a clear vision and a strong belief in the potential of women when given the necessary opportunities, support and leadership.
“This has not been an easy decision. I entered this race with genuine conviction, a clear vision and an unwavering belief in what our women can achieve when given the opportunity, support and leadership they deserve,” she said.
Ms Lomokie expressed gratitude to women, friends, colleagues, delegates and other supporters who backed her throughout the campaign.
She also acknowledged members of her campaign team for their commitment, saying the experience had strengthened the bonds among them.
According to her, withdrawing from the contest should not be interpreted as abandoning her commitment to the empowerment of women or the development of the NPP.
“Stepping back from the contest does not mean stepping away from the cause,” she stated.
Ms Lomokie said her commitment to women’s empowerment, the growth of the party and the advancement of Ghana remained unchanged.
She described leadership as requiring not only the courage to move forward but also the wisdom to pause when circumstances demanded it.
“I leave this contest with gratitude, dignity and a heart full of lessons,” she said, while wishing the remaining candidates well.
She further appealed to all contenders and party supporters to prioritise the broader interests of the NPP over individual ambitions.
She said the party’s unity, renewal and victory should remain the ultimate objective.
“My journey continues. My convictions remain. And there is still much work to be done,” she added.
Her withdrawal reduces the number of contenders for the NPP’s National Women’s Organiser position as the party prepares for its national executive elections.
