The Ghana Police Service has moved swiftly to address growing concerns over violence in schools, arresting two students in connection with the assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School.
The arrests follow widespread public outrage after a video of the incident circulated on social media. Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Yaako Donkor, disclosed in a Facebook update that she had directed school authorities to immediately produce those involved in the attack.
Within 24 hours of the directive, two 18-year-old suspects — Benedict Appiah and Bilal Mamud — were apprehended and handed over to the police. The arrests were carried out on Sunday, February 23, 2026, at about 9 p.m.
Authorities of Swedru School of Business, led by Assistant Headmaster Michael Nii Kwaku Buxton, arrested the suspects and transferred them to the Agona Swedru Divisional CID to assist with ongoing investigations.
The CID commended the school’s swift cooperation, describing it as crucial to the progress made so far. However, police say investigations are still underway and have urged any other individuals connected to the incident to voluntarily report to law enforcement or face arrest.
Reaffirming the Service’s stance, Donkor stressed that violence within educational institutions would not be tolerated, underscoring the need for discipline, safety, and accountability in schools.
The case continues to draw public attention as authorities work to conclude investigations and ensure justice is served.
