The Ghana Police Service has intensified its crackdown on violent crime following the arrest of suspects linked to a deadly robbery at Bohyen in Kumasi earlier this month.
At a press briefing at the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) confirmed that the February 10, 2026 attack led to the death of Andrews Amankwa, who was shot and later died at hospital.
His Toyota Hilux vehicle was stolen during the incident.
Police investigations traced the crime to an alleged robbery syndicate known for monitoring and targeting victims before striking.
The suspected gang leader was arrested but reportedly died from gunshot wounds sustained during an exchange of fire with officers.
A second suspect, identified as Acquisimeno, was arrested on February 18 and found in possession of a vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery.
He was arraigned before Circuit Court 2 on February 20 on a charge of possession of stolen property and has been remanded into police custody pending further proceedings.
The IGP assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, reaffirming the Service’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and ensure justice for victims of violent crime.
