President John Dramani Mahama has praised the leadership of Greater Accra Regional Minister, Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, and her team of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for their efforts to improve public safety and urban mobility through expanded street lighting.
Speaking at a durbar in Dodowa as part of his National “Thank You Tour” on Friday, Mahama highlighted the importance of well-lit communities in reducing crime and enhancing night-time economic activity, aligning with the government’s 24-Hour Economy Policy.
“I commend the regional minister and her team for their work on street lighting, which is critical for public safety, urban mobility, and economic productivity,” the President said.
Mahama announced plans to extend street lighting to all districts within the Greater Accra Region, promising full support from the central government for the initiative.
He also outlined his administration’s commitment to revitalizing local markets as part of a broader economic enhancement program, led by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Mahama hinted that the historic Dodowa market could be among those selected for improvement under this initiative.
The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to decentralization and inclusive governance, emphasizing the importance of maintaining close ties with traditional leaders and grassroots communities.
“I will personally ensure that the voices of Ga-Dangme communities, fisherfolk, market women, youth leaders, and professionals are always heard and respected,” he added, calling for continued unity and collaboration to build a Greater Accra that reflects the broader ambitions of the nation.
Mahama concluded by expressing his gratitude to the chiefs and people of the Greater Accra Region for their support during the 2024 general election, assuring them of his commitment to fulfilling the promises made during his campaign.
“Let us continue on this path, hand in hand, heart to heart. Let us uphold the peace we are enjoying and work together to build a Greater Accra that reflects the greatness of Ghana itself,” he said.
