President John Dramani Mahama has urged global leaders to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, using the occasion of Eid al-Fitr to appeal for peace.
Addressing worshippers at Independence Square on March 20, President Mahama expressed concern over the rising violence and its impact on civilians, particularly women and children, stressing that families have been displaced and communities destroyed.
The President made a direct appeal to key figures involved in the conflict, including Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Mojtaba Khamenei, urging them to choose dialogue over continued hostilities.
He encouraged Ghanaians and Muslims to use Eid as a moment for reflection and prayer for victims, saying: “Let us pray for comfort for bereaved families, healing for the injured, and relief for those in distress. Above all, let us pray for wisdom for the leaders involved.”
Referencing Islamic teachings, the President underscored the sanctity of human life, noting that saving a single life is akin to saving all humanity. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to international peace, justice, and diplomatic solutions to global conflicts.
