Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has unveiled a new-look 23-man squad for Ghana’s international friendly against Mexico on May 22, 2026, signalling the start of his final preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The squad, which mixes Europe-based professionals, Ghana Premier League players, and returning internationals, is Queiroz’s first selection since assuming the role in April 2026.
The friendly is expected to serve as a key assessment platform as Ghana fine-tunes its squad ahead of the tournament opener against Panama on June 17.
In goal, the trio includes Solomon Agbasi, Paul Reverson, and Gidios Aseako, offering a blend of domestic and overseas experience.
The defensive department features players such as Ebenezer Annan, Nathaniel Adjei, and Razak Simpson, alongside several emerging talents including Oscar Oppong and Manu Duah.
Midfield selections include creative options like Abdul Aziz Issah and Rak-Sakyi Jesurun, while Majeed Ashimeru makes a return after a lengthy injury absence.
In attack, the squad is boosted by the return of Felix Afena-Gyan, alongside Ibrahim Osman, Daniel Agyei, and Francis Amuzu, as Queiroz looks to sharpen Ghana’s attacking options.
Notably, several experienced figures including Thomas Partey and Jordan Ayew have been left out as the technical team focuses on evaluating depth and building competition within the squad.
The omission of senior players highlights Queiroz’s intent to test new combinations and assess fringe talents during the final phase of World Cup preparations.
With Ghana drawn against Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L, the upcoming friendly against Mexico is expected to provide a crucial test of the team’s readiness, structure, and squad balance ahead of the global tournament.
