Reports indicate that former Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour is set to take the reins as Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko SC, following recommendations from the club’s incoming Board of Directors.
Asante Kotoko has been without a substantive CEO since the departure of Nana Yaw Amponsah, with an Interim Management Committee currently overseeing operations. The IMC is led by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, with support from former national players Kwesi Appiah and Malik Jabir.
The new board, which will take office ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, will be chaired by James Osei Brown, with Kwasi Osei Ofori as vice-chairman. Business leader Kofi Amoa-Abban, Founder and CEO of Rigworld Group, is also expected to join the board. Once the board formally assumes office, Kuffour is widely expected to step into the CEO role.
The club is also preparing to announce a new head coach in time for the upcoming season.
Kuffour brings a wealth of experience from a stellar playing career in Europe, featuring notable stints at AS Roma and FC Bayern Munich. He was also instrumental in Ghana’s historic qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
After returning briefly to Kotoko in 2009, Kuffour retired from professional football without making an official appearance but remained connected to the club, joining the board in August 2013. His potential appointment as CEO signals a renewed focus on leadership rooted in both football expertise and strategic governance.
