The legitimately installed Chief of Omanjor-Dwenewoho in the Ga North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, Nii Ayitey Tackie I, has sharply responded to what he describes as an ill-fated letter written by Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill, who claims to be the Principal Secretary and Lawful Attorney of the Asere Stool in the Ga State.
Expressing his displeasure, Nii Ayitey Tackie described the contents of the letter as hollow and misleading, strongly contesting Ardey Ansah-Hill’s claim to the title of Principal Secretary of the Asere Stool.
While Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill has previously held the position of Asere Stool Secretary, questions regarding the propriety of his actions stem from ongoing and often contested chieftaincy disputes and factional politics within the Asere Stool.
Nii Ayitey Tackie I warned Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill to desist from what he termed “nonsense comments” regarding the deadly clash that occurred on August 30, 2025, during the Homowo Festival, which resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
The Omanjor chief was responding to a letter dated Thursday, February 19, 2026, written by Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill in his capacity as Principal Secretary of the Asere Stool, in which he warned the Omanjor chief to stop parading himself as the recognized and installed Chief (Mantse) of Omanjor-Dwenewoho.
Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill referenced his position to write such letter to an earlier ill fated letter dated September 16, 2025 being written by the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) with a reference number of GTC/GP/V2/94 signed by Kenneth Smart-Abbey representing the Registrar of the GTC, cautioning Nii Ayitey Tackie I to stop holding himself as the chief chief Omanjor.
Speaking in an interview with journalists to set
the record straight on what he described as misleading information circulating on social media platforms and within traditional councils in the Ga State, the Ga traditional ruler called on the general public and media houses to disregard the letter circulated by Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill.
He stressed that historically and traditionally, Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill lacks the capacity to challenge his chieftaincy status and rejected assertions that the Omanjor Stool is subordinate to the Asere Stool.
He further described Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill as an imposter who lacks locus, stressing that the imposter secretary can’t threaten me.”
The chief argued that Omanjor has always been part of lands belonging to the Abola Piam family, reaffirming that he was enstooled by the Abola Piam family and not under the Asere Stool.
“This time around, we will not accept any illegal actions by Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill and his group against the Omanjor Stool under my leadership.
“We have been urging the Ghana Police Service to perform their duties professionally and ensure the arrest of the key perpetrators involved in the deadly violence during the Omanjor Homowo Festival.
“We have taken fair and documented steps to escalate this murder case and ensure that it is properly investigated as a criminal matter, independent of any chieftaincy dispute. We have brought the case to the attention of higher authorities within the Ghana Police Service and external oversight bodies.
“However, we have noticed that Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill and his group appear to be attempting to escalate tensions while we pursue justice through the police. We state categorically that this is a pure murder case and has absolutely nothing to do with any chieftaincy dispute.”
The chief strongly reaffirmed that the Omanjor shooting incident was “a pure murder case” unrelated to chieftaincy disputes, contrary to claims allegedly made by Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill.
He further alleged that attempts to question his chieftaincy integrity over his demand for justice for the victims demonstrate ulterior motives. He also questioned why Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill would interfere in efforts to arrest the perpetrators involved in the deadly incident.
As a royal of the Asere and Abola Piam Tunma families, Nii Ayitey Tackie I stated that although Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill may have lineage ties to the Asere Stool, he does not hail directly from Asere.
According to the chief, Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill historically and traditionally hails from the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area.
The Omanjor-Dwenewoho chief also indicated that documentary court evidence exists challenging Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill’s capacity to act as Principal Secretary, Resource Person, and Lawful Attorney of the Asere Stool of the Asere Mantse Palace, Kotopon, Ga State.
He further accused Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill of allegedly being the mastermind behind certain individuals who attacked innocent people during the Homowo Festival celebrations.
“We are saying that there are evidence attest to the fact Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill is using some violent notorious landguards, including an individual known as “Asa Brother” (Animle Ayitey to cause tension by attacking workers, creating a climate of fear and violence in Accra.
“We are saying that it evidence attests to8h the fact Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill is using Asaa Brother to visit attacks on the people in the ongoing chieftaincy and land-related conflicts in Accra.
The chief further accused Nii Ardey Ansah-Hill of employing Asaa Brother and group of land guards to supervise stone quarrying and encroachment activities at Omanjor.
There are allegations that notorious landguards, including an individual known as “Asa Brother” (Animle Ayitey), are allegedly involved in violent activities and land-related conflicts within the Greater Accra region.
These activities often involve armed attacks and threats, contributing to rising tensions in areas such as Omanjor, Teshie and Akplabanya in the Ada East District.
Tension remains high in the Ga State five months after the deadly violence that erupted during the Omanjor Homowo Festival celebration on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Named Suspects and Calls for Prosecution
Five months after the August 30 violence at Omanjor, certain prominent individuals associated with traditional authority have allegedly been shielded from arrest despite being linked to the clashes.
The individuals named include Asaa Brother, Kojo Oblahia Mantse, Ayitey UN, Nii Okai Amass, Asaa Bongo, Asaa Larry, Johnny, Guntu, and Amuzu Reverend.
Sources insist that these individuals must be brought before the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The law must deal with these violent individuals to deter others from engaging in unlawful acts,” the sources stated.
Fatalities and Injuries
The incident reportedly resulted in the deaths of two followers of the legally installed Chief of Omanjor-Dwenewoho, Nii Ayitey Tackie I.
The chief was allegedly attacked by suspected land guards in the presence of a police patrol team deployed on the orders of the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander during the sprinkling of Kpokpoi to the ancestors.
The deceased were identified as Theophilus Amu and Nii Dodoo Donkor. They were reportedly ambushed at Olebu while returning home from the Homowo celebration.
Both men were shot dead in broad daylight, while three others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Ridge Hospital for treatment.
Some perpetrators, including Asaa Brother and Nii Okai Amass, have allegedly been implicated in previous murder cases in areas such as Ashalaja and Ardeyman.
Authorities have described them as key figures in violent chieftaincy disputes and land guard activities in Accra—activities that senior police officers, including past and present Inspectors-General of Police, are said to be aware of.
Call for Justice and Calm
Meanwhile, Nii Ayitey Tackie I has reiterated his call for the Ghana Police Service to bring all culpable individuals to justice.
He urged residents and grieving families to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“In 2026, we are still working tirelessly to restore calm and peace to the Omanjor community. We are hopeful that all perpetrators will be brought to book. The law must deal with these violent individuals to deter others from engaging in unlawful acts,” he said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the bereaved families and pledged continued assistance.
The chief further accused the police of failing to act decisively despite being provided with detailed information and video evidence allegedly identifying some of the armed men involved.
“This silence is creating room for unnecessary speculation. I do not want to believe it is influenced by persons in the corridors of power within the Ga Traditional Council,” he warned.
