A heavy rainstorm accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms has left Wenchi ‘C’ Methodist Basic School in the Bono Region struggling to cope after parts of its classroom blocks were ripped off, disrupting teaching and learning activities.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, June 2, 2026, when the downpour swept through sections of the Wenchi Municipality, causing significant damage to school infrastructure.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Andrews Twum, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the damage had forced the school to merge classes to accommodate about 168 pupils affected by the destruction of five classrooms.
He said the storm also destroyed several teaching and learning resources, including seven computers with accessories, a flat-screen television, books, and other educational materials, after floodwaters entered the affected rooms.
According to him, the school has already reported the incident to the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of Education and is engaging stakeholders for temporary measures to keep academic work ongoing.
Mr Twum appealed for urgent intervention to re-roof the damaged classrooms, warning that overcrowding was now seriously affecting effective teaching and learning.
He stressed that without swift support, the situation could further disrupt academic progress for the pupils.
