The people of Lawra and the wider Upper West Region are reeling from the sudden death of Alhaji Adams Muazu, the recently confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Though the cause of his death is yet to be confirmed publicly, the news has triggered an outpouring of grief across political and community circles, especially given that Alhaji Muazu had only been in office for two months.
Regional Minister Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing confirmed the passing of the MCE in a Facebook post, describing the loss as not only personal but also a major blow to the region’s development efforts.
“Regrettably, the hard work, perseverance, and future prospects of the late Alhaji Muazu to the NDC party, the Upper West Region, and the people of Lawra is lost on all of us,” Mr. Puozuing wrote in his tribute.
The Regional Minister, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, particularly his wife and children.
Alhaji Muazu, a loyal member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had been widely seen as a unifying force in Lawra. His short tenure was marked by a strong commitment to local development and grassroots engagement.
Community members, party executives, and traditional leaders in the municipality have expressed deep sorrow over the passing, with many describing him as a humble and dedicated public servant who was just beginning to make an impact.
The sudden nature of his death has sparked calls for greater attention to the health and wellbeing of public officials, with many lamenting that yet another promising life has ended before it could fully blossom.
As the Lawra Municipality mourns its leader, attention now turns to how the government will navigate the administrative vacuum left behind—and honour the legacy of a man whose time was cut painfully short.
