Construction work on the Sunyani Outer Ring Road under the government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme is steadily progressing, with contractors confirming that preparations are underway for asphalt paving of the 34-kilometre stretch.
The project, which was officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on December 21, 2025, is expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and support economic activity in the Sunyani area.
Site engineers from Kofi Job Company Limited, the contractors handling the works, say significant progress has been made on earthworks, with portions of the road already brought to formation level in readiness for pavement layers.
According to Site Engineer Kofi Kamkam, about six kilometres of the stretch has reached formation stage, marking a key step toward asphalt application. He added that concrete works are also advancing across various sections of the project.
He indicated that overall progress stands at 49 percent for Lot 1 and 43 percent for Lot 2, describing the development as steady and in line with the project schedule.
The road, once completed, will connect key communities including Fiapre, Nanketewa, Old Abesim, Old Odomase, and New Odomase, linking them to the Sunyani–Abesim highway and improving regional mobility.
Contractors have commended the cooperation of traditional leaders and local residents, saying their support has helped maintain smooth operations on site. They also reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project within the planned two-year timeframe.
Some residents along the corridor have welcomed the progress, expressing optimism that the project will significantly improve transportation and economic activities in the area. However, they have also urged contractors to manage dust emissions to protect public health during construction.
Local traders and community members say the visible pace of work has boosted confidence that the project will be completed on schedule, bringing long-term relief to commuters and businesses in the region.
