The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a protest at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, over outstanding payments owed to its members under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.
According to the association, suppliers are demanding the immediate release of approximately GH¢50 million for uniforms, house dresses, and school cloths supplied to public senior high schools since 2023.
NAIS said repeated engagements with relevant authorities have failed to secure payment, leaving many suppliers under severe financial strain and struggling to sustain their operations.
The association explained that the prolonged delay in settling the debt has affected businesses and raised concerns about the future supply of essential items to schools.
In a statement, NAIS described the planned picketing as a necessary step to draw government attention to the challenges facing suppliers and to push for the prompt settlement of the outstanding arrears.
“The picketing aims not only to draw the government’s attention to our plight but also to urge the immediate release of funds owed to NAIS members,” the association stated.
The group believes the demonstration will highlight the urgency of the issue and encourage swift intervention by the authorities to resolve the payment backlog.
NAIS has also called on the media and other stakeholders to support efforts to bring attention to the concerns of suppliers whose businesses have been impacted by the delayed payments.
The protest is expected to take place at the Ministry of Education in Accra on June 11, with members hoping the action will accelerate the release of the funds owed to them.
