The memory of the late Commissioner of Police (COP) Stephen Andoh-Kwofie continues to inspire transformational change in his hometown, Atonkwa, as the TAG Group—an association of his friends, classmates, and colleagues—delivers a state-of-the-art Home Economics block and canteen to the Atonkwa Basic School.
While the unveiling ceremony celebrated COP Andoh-Kwofie’s legacy, the bigger story is the growing impact of TAG Group’s philanthropy, which has consistently uplifted the community through education-focused initiatives and social support programs.
The Home Economics block, stocked with industrial sewing and knitting machines, fridges, electric irons, and cooking utensils, will provide vocational training and practical life skills to students. By integrating nutrition and skill development, the facility is designed to tackle long-term socio-economic barriers that hinder educational progress in rural areas.
Mr. Isaac Akesseh, Chairman of TAG Group, emphasized that their vision extends beyond infrastructure, stating: “This is not just a building; it is an investment in human capital. We want the children of Atonkwa to gain both academic knowledge and practical skills that will empower them for the future.”
TAG Group’s initiative highlights the potential of alumni and social networks in bridging educational infrastructure gaps in underserved communities. By pooling resources and sustaining long-term engagements, the group has set a model for community-driven development that other associations and old student groups can emulate.
TAG Group has consistently demonstrated its commitment to education, with members making annual visits to Atonkwa to support schools, offer mentorship, and advocate for government intervention in local education policies.
While the new facility is a major milestone, the Headteacher, Mr. William Awotwe, called for additional support, particularly the inclusion of the school in the National School Feeding Programme to address student malnutrition. Other pressing needs include teaching and learning materials, fencing of the kindergarten block, and a school bus to ease long walking distances for students.
As TAG Group pledges to monitor the impact of their latest intervention, the legacy of COP Andoh-Kwofie continues to inspire a ripple effect of change, ensuring that the young generation in Atonkwa has the tools to build a better future.
