The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected drug dealer during an anti-drug operation in the Tamale metropolis, leading to the seizure of large quantities of Tramadol and other substances.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Manan, 33, was apprehended by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team during a targeted operation at Zujung on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Northern Regional Police Command, the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to crack down on the sale and distribution of illicit drugs within the metropolis.
Police said the operation was led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku following intelligence reports linking the suspect to alleged drug trafficking activities.
Authorities disclosed that the suspect was allegedly operating from an over-the-counter chemical shop.
A search conducted at both the suspect’s shop and residence reportedly uncovered several boxes and sachets of Tramadol, including 32 boxes of 50mg Tramadol and one box of 250mg Tramadol.
Police also retrieved sachets of Royal Tramadol and other pharmaceutical products, including Astradol-P and bottles of Koffex cough syrup.
The statement said the suspect and the retrieved exhibits had been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations and possible prosecution.
Police added that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and identify other persons connected to the suspected illicit trade.
