The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed immediate restrictions on the movement of loaded tipper trucks along the AngloGold Junction route following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of four people, including an infant.
The decision was reached after an emergency meeting between MUSEC and executives of the Tipper Truck Operators Association aimed at addressing road safety concerns within the municipality.
In a statement signed by Municipal Chief Executive and MUSEC Chairman, Ebenezer Cobbinah, the Council said investigations indicated that the fatal crash involved a tipper truck that reportedly lost control and crashed head-on into a passenger vehicle trapped in traffic.
The collision resulted in the instant deaths of three adults and a baby, prompting authorities to take urgent action to prevent similar incidents.
As part of the new measures, all tipper trucks transporting quarry materials, stones, sand and other loads have been prohibited from using the AngloGold Junction route when travelling to and from quarry and mining sites within the municipality.
Instead, operators have been directed to use the main Teberebie Junction route with immediate effect.
MUSEC stressed that compliance with the directive is mandatory for all truck owners, drivers and members of the operators’ association.
According to the Council, the restriction forms part of broader efforts by the Municipal Assembly and security agencies to improve road safety and protect lives and property.
The statement further disclosed that additional measures aimed at strengthening road safety management are under consideration and will be announced in due course.
Enforcement of the directive has been assigned to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service under the Tarkwa Command.
Authorities warned that any driver or operator who violates the directive will face the appropriate legal sanctions.
MUSEC has therefore appealed to all stakeholders in the transport and mining sectors to cooperate fully with the new arrangements to help reduce road accidents and enhance public safety across the municipality.
