A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been arrested after a video circulated on social media showing him allegedly assaulting a female student on campus.
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, who disclosed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, that education authorities have begun investigations into the incident.
According to Mr. Fenyi, the regional education directorate is currently probing the matter and is expected to submit a full report to GES headquarters for further action.
The viral footage has triggered widespread public concern, appearing to show the teacher physically attacking the student while other students nearby pleaded for him to stop.
In the video, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student and later lifting and throwing her to the ground, an act that left her visibly overpowered as bystanders called for restraint.
Eyewitnesses can be heard in the background appealing to the teacher to stop the assault, stressing that the victim was a female student. The teacher, however, is heard responding angrily, questioning whether she was aware of her status as a girl.
The exact circumstances that led to the confrontation have not yet been established by school authorities or the Ghana Education Service.
The incident has intensified public calls for stronger safeguarding measures in schools and stricter enforcement of discipline standards among staff.
GES has assured that appropriate disciplinary and legal steps will follow pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
