The Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate’s HIV/TB Unit recently convened a critical review meeting bringing together HIV cadres, healthcare workers, and key stakeholders from both public and private sectors to enhance the quality of HIV care across the metropolis.
The gathering provided a vital platform for sharing best practices, addressing operational challenges, and fostering stronger collaboration aimed at improving health outcomes for People Living with HIV (PLHIV). Discussions centered on reducing default rates among patients on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) and refining client management strategies.
Madam Joanna Anorkor Lartey, the Metro HIV/TB Coordinator, highlighted persistent issues such as poor coordination between HIV care staff and cadres, and inadequate privacy in some private health facilities that hindered effective service delivery. She called for improved teamwork within ART units and urged private facility managers to provide dedicated spaces for cadres to perform their duties efficiently.
Representatives from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Tema’s HIV/AIDS self-testing ambassador also contributed to the meeting, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The event underscores the Directorate’s commitment to continuous evaluation and innovation in HIV care, aiming to strengthen collaboration among all actors involved to achieve better health outcomes for the metropolis.
