The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a driver after officers intercepted a container truck loaded with large quantities of compressed plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs along the Tema–Ada Road.
The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was picked up on Sunday, May 31, 2026, following a high-speed pursuit by the Tema Highway Patrol Unit after he allegedly failed to comply with a police stop signal.
According to a statement from the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, officers became suspicious when the Hyundai Mighty II container truck ignored instructions to halt during routine checks and attempted to escape.
The statement indicated that the vehicle was eventually intercepted at Bundase after a chase, leading to the arrest of the driver.
A subsequent search of the truck revealed 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material concealed within the container and wrapped in sellotape.
Preliminary police findings suggest the suspected substances were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported towards Ada at the time of interception.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations, while the vehicle and seized items have been retained for evidential purposes.
The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and related crimes, urging the public to support law enforcement with credible information to aid ongoing operations.
