In a poignant display of regional solidarity, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the people of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including two prominent cabinet ministers.
President Tinubu’s message, delivered through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, extended deep sympathy to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, and the people of Ghana. The Nigerian leader emphasized that Nigeria mourns with Ghana in this moment of collective grief.
“The thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria are with you,” the statement read, stressing that the victims’ ultimate sacrifice in service of their nation resonates across the region.
President Tinubu encouraged the Ghanaian people and the bereaved families to find solace in the fact that their loved ones perished in the line of patriotic duty. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls and for divine strength to uphold those left behind.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on August 6, led to the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six other officials. The delegation was on a national assignment related to sustainable mining when the tragedy struck.
The incident has sent shockwaves beyond Ghana’s borders, with regional leaders echoing messages of unity, underscoring the close ties between West African nations, and reaffirming shared values of peace, service, and cooperation.
