The Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Lawyer Edmond Kombat, has received national recognition for what industry stakeholders describe as a significant turnaround in leadership and operational performance at the state-owned refinery.
The honour was conferred at the 10th Ghana CEOs Summit held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, an event organised by the Ghana CEOs Network in collaboration with institutions including the University of Ghana, PwC, Ernst & Young, Deloitte, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Margins Group, Media General, and the Multimedia Group.
Organisers of the summit praised Mr. Kombat for his “exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to advancing operational excellence and transformation at TOR in support of Ghana’s petroleum and energy sector.”
The recognition comes at a time when the refinery is recording renewed operational activity, including the recent receipt of about one million barrels of Bonga crude oil delivered to Tema aboard the MT Cap Felix.
The crude shipment, procured from Shell and supplied through TOR’s tolling partner Fujairah/Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT), is part of ongoing efforts to stabilise operations at the refinery and strengthen the supply of petroleum products to the domestic market.
President John Dramani Mahama served as Special Guest of Honour at the summit and delivered the keynote address.
Since assuming office roughly a year ago, Mr. Kombat has been credited with driving reforms aimed at repositioning TOR, which had previously struggled with operational and financial challenges.
Beyond his role at the refinery, Mr. Kombat is a lawyer, entrepreneur, and financial professional with experience in the energy and agribusiness sectors. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School as an Edward S. Mason Fellow, a Bachelor of Laws from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and a First Class degree in Political Science from the University of Ghana.
He is a member of the Ghana Bar and a partner at BidzakinKombat Chambers, as well as a licensed stock analyst with the Ghana Stock Exchange.
The award is seen as a reflection of growing confidence in TOR’s recovery trajectory and ongoing efforts to restore the refinery’s role in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
