A tragic lightning strike that claimed the life of a young man in Kassadjan, near Kadjebi in the Oti Region, has left residents in grief while also fuelling speculation within the community.
The deceased, Joseph Aborbor, 25, reportedly died during a heavy rainstorm on Saturday, March 21. His sudden death has deeply affected family members and residents of the area.
In a related development, his pregnant wife, Olivia Nyande, is said to have collapsed after receiving news of the incident. She was rushed to the Kadjebi Health Centre, where she received treatment and was later discharged.
While the incident has been widely attributed to natural causes, unverified claims circulating in the community suggest a possible link to a recent motorbike theft case. Some residents allege that spiritual intervention involving a local deity may have been invoked to identify a suspect, with the lightning strike interpreted by some as connected to that process.
However, no official confirmation has been made to support these claims, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Jasikan Municipal Hospital morgue as the community continues to mourn and await clarity on the tragic घटना.
