The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has received a comprehensive briefing on the status of earth-moving equipment allocated to the region under the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
The DRIP initiative, a government-led effort to enhance rural road networks across Ghana, saw all 15 districts in the Upper East Region receive their share of equipment during the previous administration. The machinery includes tipper trucks, backhoes, water tankers, rollers, motor graders, wheel loaders, bulldozers, low-bed trailers, and concrete mixers.
Providing the update, Mr. Osman Musah, the Regional Director of DRIP, informed the Minister that 10 pieces of equipment were stationed at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), while seven others were distributed among the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs).
To ensure proper handling and operation, 20 trained operators and their assistants have been assigned to the machinery across the region. Each MDA has also established a seven-member supervisory committee to oversee the effective management and utilization of the equipment.
J.A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited, a leading construction equipment supplier, has been contracted to handle the maintenance of the DRIP machinery. The company has deployed two engineers in the region to address any technical challenges that may arise.
Following the briefing, Mr. Atanga stressed the need for the equipment to be used efficiently for their intended purpose—to improve road infrastructure in rural communities. He expressed appreciation to the DRIP Director for the update and encouraged continued maintenance efforts to prolong the lifespan of the equipment and ensure they serve the needs of the people.
