The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast has confirmed Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as the institution’s substantive Vice-Chancellor, formally ending his acting tenure and ushering in a new phase of leadership for the university.
The appointment, announced in an official statement on Friday, May 15, 2026, follows a Special Meeting of the Governing Council in which members approved his transition to the top administrative position. The decision takes effect from August 1, 2026.
Professor Aheto, who has been serving concurrently as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor, will officially assume full responsibility as Vice-Chancellor upon the commencement of his substantive appointment.
His elevation places him at the helm of one of Ghana’s leading tertiary institutions, marking a leadership continuation rather than an abrupt change, given his current role within the university’s top management.
The Governing Council’s decision signals a formal endorsement of his stewardship during his acting period and sets the stage for him to guide the university into its next administrative cycle.
