The University of Ghana (UG) has ruled out academic probation for undergraduate students who fail to attain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00, directing those who fell below the threshold at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.
The university’s Academic Affairs Directorate announced the directive in a notice posted on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, citing Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017).
Under the regulation, students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for progression to the next level.
The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not provide for academic probation. Consequently, undergraduate students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released are required to withdraw.
Affected students have been advised to check their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and initiate the withdrawal process through the Student and Staff Portal (STS).
Students are required to log in to sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, select the “Withdrawal Request” option and follow the procedure to complete their applications.
The Directorate noted that, in some programmes, the relevant school or department would initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students who require clarification on their academic status or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
Meanwhile, the university’s Careers and Counselling Directorate will remain available to provide guidance and support to students affected by the decision.
The directive reinforces the university’s academic progression requirements, under which students who fail to meet the minimum CGPA threshold cannot continue in their programmes under an academic probation arrangement.
