A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer, Brooke George from Gravesend in Kent, is facing a murder charge in Dubai and could potentially be sentenced to death by firing squad if convicted, according to a human rights advocacy group.
The case, as outlined by the organisation Detained in Dubai, relates to the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, whom she reportedly met online. Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have charged her with premeditated murder following her arrest on June 22.
However, the advocacy group says George maintains she acted in self-defence during what she describes as a violent and abusive encounter with her partner. It claims she was attempting to escape the relationship when the incident occurred, alleging that she feared for her life during an attack at their apartment.
The group is calling for her release on bail and argues that the matter should be treated as a case involving domestic violence rather than murder, while also raising concerns about her treatment in custody and access to legal representation.
According to Detained in Dubai, George has alleged mistreatment while being held at Bur Dubai Police Station, including claims that she was forced to strip in the presence of male officers without a female officer present—an experience she described as deeply distressing.
Her mother has also expressed concern about her welfare, saying she noticed changes in her daughter’s behaviour shortly before the incident and believes she was trying to leave an abusive situation.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has confirmed it is in contact with the detained British national, providing support to her family and engaging with local authorities in the UAE as the case proceeds.
The organisation advocating for her has further called for access to medical care, legal representation and consular support, while urging authorities to consider the broader context of domestic abuse allegations.
The case continues to attract international attention amid ongoing debates about self-defence laws, women’s rights, and the treatment of foreign nationals in the UAE justice system.
