The United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Ghana, Ms. Bell Ribeiro-Addy, will undertake her first official visit to Ghana from May 19 to 22, 2025, with a focus on bolstering trade and investment between the two nations.
Appointed in January 2025 by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy’s role is part of a broader UK strategy to enhance international trade through a network of trade envoys spanning over 70 countries.
During her four-day visit, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy will engage with high-level government officials, business leaders, and traditional authorities in Accra and Kumasi, as part of efforts to deepen the UK-Ghana economic partnership.
Her itinerary includes meetings with Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Minister Ms. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abass Apaak. She is also expected to hold discussions with officials from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), senior government officials, and representatives from UK businesses operating in Ghana.
In Kumasi, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy will visit two key infrastructure projects backed by UK Export Finance (UKEF) – the ongoing redevelopment of the Kumasi Airport and the construction of the maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Both projects reflect the UK’s continued commitment to supporting infrastructure development in Ghana’s Ashanti Region.
Additionally, the UK Trade Envoy will host a roundtable discussion with members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, aimed at promoting gender-inclusive economic policies and sustainable development.
Expressing her excitement ahead of the trip, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy highlighted the importance of this visit in forging stronger economic ties and exploring new collaborative opportunities.
British High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms. Harriet Thompson, also welcomed the visit, noting that it underscores the UK’s commitment to fostering mutually beneficial economic partnerships across Africa, with Ghana as a key player in the region.
The visit is expected to further solidify Ghana’s position as a vital trade partner for the UK in West Africa, enhancing bilateral trade and investment flows for mutual economic growth.
