The ongoing construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market at Ve-Golokuati in the Afadzato South District is expected to stimulate local economic activity, create jobs and provide traders with a more conducive environment to operate.
District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afadzato South, Mr Manfred Tawiah, gave the indication when he led officials of the Assembly to inspect progress of work on the project.
The inspection formed part of the second site meeting convened by the project consultant, PPMG, to assess the pace and quality of construction and identify measures to ensure the successful completion of the facility.
The project, which is currently at the foundation stage, has recorded significant progress in ground preparation and substructure works.
Mr Tawiah and his team, comprising the District Works Engineer, District Planning Officer and other Assembly officials, interacted with the consultant and contractor to review the progress of construction and assess compliance with approved specifications and drawings.
The Assembly said its inspection indicated that the contractor was producing quality work and adhering to the approved specifications.
The consultant, PPMG, led by Mr Mamtaz Quaye, also briefed the team on the construction schedule and assured them that the required technical standards were being followed to guarantee the structural integrity and durability of the facility.
Mr Tawiah expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work and commended the contractor for what he described as professionalism on site.
He urged the consultant and contractor to sustain the momentum and adhere to the agreed timelines to facilitate the early completion of the project.
According to him, the completed market would expand trading opportunities, create employment and contribute significantly to the economic development of Ve-Golokuati and the wider Afadzato South District.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to providing the necessary support and supervision to ensure that the project was completed on schedule and in accordance with the required standards.
The regular site meetings, he said, would also help stakeholders identify and address challenges promptly and ensure that the facility ultimately served as a model 24-hour economy market in the Volta Region.
