Child healthcare delivery at the Ho Municipal Hospital has received a significant boost following the installation of a new double-door refrigerator at its Children’s Ward to improve vaccine preservation.
The equipment, donated by the Volta ECG Power Queens, is expected to strengthen cold-chain management at the hospital’s Paediatric Department, ensuring vaccines remain potent and safe for administration.
The intervention was triggered by an appeal from Ms Hajiatu Maudey, a nurse at the unit, who raised concerns about the urgent need for reliable refrigeration to safeguard vaccine supplies for young patients.
At a brief presentation ceremony, Ms Rose Amegbletor, President of the Power Queens, explained that the group responded swiftly after learning about the department’s challenge. She described the donation as part of their broader commitment to community wellbeing through targeted social impact initiatives.
“Protecting the health of our children is a shared responsibility,” she said, adding that the group was pleased to provide practical support where it was most needed.
Receiving the refrigerator on behalf of the department, Madam Monica Manti, Head of Paediatrics, said the facility would significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to store vaccines safely and efficiently, ultimately improving service delivery.
In a light-hearted appeal, Nurse Maudey compared herself to Oliver Twist for boldly asking for assistance and encouraged the group to consider adopting one of the wards within the Children’s Unit for sustained partnership.
The donation highlights the growing role of community-based organisations in supporting public health infrastructure, particularly in critical areas such as immunisation and child healthcare.
