Two journalists from the Volta Region are set to compete for the Treasurer position of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the upcoming elections, reflecting a vibrant contest centered on financial stewardship and transparency.
Madam Ewoenam Kpodo, the current Treasurer and journalist with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), seeks re-election after successfully managing the association’s funds for the past three years. She emphasized her ongoing commitment to completing the Volta Press Centre project, highlighting her proven track record in fundraising and financial management. “With your support, I intend to continue raising the necessary resources to finalize this important infrastructure for our profession,” she stated.
Challenging her is Mr. King Freeman Xorlali Nutsukpoe, an experienced broadcaster and anchor at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Volta Star Radio. With 15 years in media, he is pitching a fresh, innovative approach focused on digitalizing membership payments, enhancing financial transparency through regular audits, and initiating financial literacy workshops tailored for journalists. “My goal is to ensure the Association’s resources are managed with utmost accountability while empowering members with financial knowledge,” Nutsukpoe explained.
Following a ballot held on June 13, Nutsukpoe secured the first spot on the ballot paper, with Kpodo in the second position. Both candidates have garnered significant support and are calling on their colleagues to vote for them in the June 30 elections.
This contest underscores a critical moment for the Volta Region GJA as members look to elect a treasurer capable of managing funds effectively while promoting transparency and supporting the professional development of journalists in the region.
