A dispute has erupted within the Wa Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after allegations emerged that the Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Issahaku Famina, declined a cash donation intended to support branch executives ahead of the party’s internal elections.
The alleged donation of GH¢40,000 was reportedly provided by businessman and NDC financier Alhaji Alhassan Gbangu, husband of Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim. The funds were meant to help branch executives settle outstanding dues and purchase nomination forms for the upcoming constituency elections.
However, some party members have expressed displeasure over how the situation was handled. The Chairman of the party’s coordinators in Wa Central, Mr Salifu Mumuni, led the criticism, claiming the Constituency Chairman refused to receive the money without clear justification.
According to Mr Mumuni, the funds were eventually accepted by him and distributed to branch executives to ensure the intended purpose was fulfilled.
He questioned the leadership decision, arguing that the refusal undermined the welfare of grassroots executives.
“We heard that this money was being sent to the Constituency Chairman, who is the overlord in this constituency. But he refused to collect this money… somebody suffered and delivered a huge amount of money like this to support branch executives, and you refuse to collect it and dispense it to them?” he said, expressing frustration over the development.
He added that such actions reflected poor leadership and were contributing to internal dissatisfaction within the constituency.
The incident has reportedly created tension among party members in the area, with differing accounts of how the donation was handled.
Meanwhile, Constituency Chairman Alhaji Issahaku Famina has denied the allegations, insisting that the claims being circulated are inaccurate.
