Women have been urged to take greater control of their personal and professional growth by actively building networks, acquiring new skills, and positioning themselves for emerging opportunities.
Chief Executive Officer of WAN-Hive Ghana, a women-focused non-governmental organisation, Janat Issifu, said career advancement increasingly depends on preparation, visibility, and meaningful connections rather than chance.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dumasua in the Sunyani West Municipality, she said her organisation is committed to empowering women through partnerships, skills development, and access to opportunities that support long-term growth.
She noted that although many programmes are designed for women, participation levels are often low, limiting the impact such initiatives could have on their advancement.
According to her, women must take advantage of both physical and digital learning spaces, including online courses, academic training, and professional development programmes, to remain competitive in today’s evolving job market.
She emphasised that opportunities are more likely to benefit individuals who are adequately prepared, urging women to invest consistently in building relevant skills before opportunities arise.
Ms. Issifu also advised against casual networking, encouraging women to focus on building intentional professional relationships with individuals who share similar goals and values.
She stressed the importance of clarity and purpose when reaching out for professional connections, noting that effective communication can open doors to collaboration and career growth.
Beyond career development, she encouraged women to pursue financial independence and actively explore avenues for wealth creation, while acknowledging that the journey to success often involves challenges and setbacks.
Despite these obstacles, she expressed confidence that women who remain focused, disciplined, and intentional about their goals can achieve significant personal and professional success.
WAN-Hive Ghana, she added, remains open to supporting women who are determined to build meaningful careers and contribute positively to society.
