Water services in the North Eastern parts of Accra have been fully restored following a fire outbreak at the Dodowa Booster Station, which disrupted supply to several communities.
The Ministry of Works and Housing confirmed that the incident, which affected two of the station’s control panels, was triggered by intermittent power outages in the area. Deputy Minister Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui visited the facility to assess the extent of the damage and monitor ongoing repair efforts.
In a statement on Facebook, the Ministry noted, “From briefings by the station manager, Mr. Adolf Agbezuhlor, the fire was caused by intermittent power outages in the area.”
Ghana Water Ltd had earlier announced a temporary suspension of water supply to allow for comprehensive repairs. The utility company has since confirmed that the damaged panels have been fixed, and water distribution has resumed to affected communities.
The Ministry reassured residents that measures are being taken to minimise future disruptions, urging the public to report any irregularities in water supply for prompt response.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of essential services to power fluctuations, prompting calls for improved infrastructure and emergency preparedness across water supply systems.
