Farmers in the Wenchi Municipality are set to receive support to reduce the cost of farm inputs following the distribution of 1,500 bags of fertiliser to 33 Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs).
The fertiliser, supplied under the Feed Ghana Programme, was presented by Madam Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who urged the beneficiary organisations to ensure that it reached deserving farmers across the municipality.
She said the intervention formed part of efforts to increase food production in the municipality by improving farmers’ access to essential agricultural inputs.
Madam Gyamfi said the fertiliser would help reduce production costs while improving crop productivity and strengthening local food production.
Mr Emmanuel Afful, Wenchi Municipal Director of Agriculture, described the intervention as timely, noting that improved access to fertiliser would enhance soil fertility and contribute to increased crop yields.
He urged the FBOs to distribute the fertiliser fairly to farmers who needed it and ensure that it was used for its intended purpose.
Mr Yaroba Abdul Wahab, representing the beneficiary FBOs, expressed appreciation for the support, saying the fertiliser would ease the financial burden on farmers.
He said the intervention would also improve crop nutrition and contribute to higher agricultural productivity in the municipality.
