In the wake of the devastating military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight public officials, the Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL) has called on Ghanaians to come together in solidarity, compassion, and collective healing.
The youth-led organization, in a statement signed by its leader Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie and shared with the Ghana News Agency, emphasized the need for national unity in the face of what it described as a “deeply wounding moment” in Ghana’s recent history.
Rather than focusing solely on mourning, the WNYL is urging the country to transform its grief into action — supporting affected families, ensuring accountability, and preventing future tragedies.
“This heartbreaking incident has left a scar not just on the families of the victims, but on the conscience of the entire nation,” the statement read. “We must move beyond sorrow to practical support, collective resolve, and meaningful change.”
While extending its condolences to the bereaved families and the government, the WNYL underscored the importance of a thorough investigation into the crash, calling on authorities to “leave no stone unturned” in uncovering the causes of the disaster and taking steps to safeguard public officials and service members in future operations.
The statement also highlighted the emotional toll the incident has taken on local communities, particularly those directly connected to the deceased. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are grappling with the pain of losing their loved ones. We hope they find strength in the knowledge that the entire nation stands beside them,” it said.
As part of its commitment to national development and civic responsibility, the Western Nzema Youth League pledged to remain actively engaged in honouring the memory of the fallen and advocating for policies that protect public servants.
“In these trying times,” the group urged, “let us unite not only in mourning but in purpose. Together, we will heal, rebuild, and honour the legacies of those who gave their lives in service to Ghana.”
The WNYL’s message is the latest in a wave of nationwide responses to the crash, which has triggered a national period of mourning and widespread calls for reform and support for the affected families.
